What image do you have for Ikebana? Simple? Complicated? Easy? Difficult?

Comparing to the Western style floral arrangement, it might look very simple, but deep. One of the biggest differences I believe is, in Ikebana, it is very important to find the best angle of each flower, and I personally call the process "Meditation", as you deeply concentrate on the flower in front of you and forget about the things happen in your everyday life. In this process, you may also think about how they grew when they were in a field, such as how they took sunshine every day and how they grew to make the curves in their stems. Through learning Ikebana, you will learn not only the techniques of Ikebana arrangement, but also the Japanese sense of beauty, which Japanese people finds in nature.

​「生け花」と聞いて何を思い浮かべるでしょうか。伝統的で古い、堅苦しい、女性がやるもの？では、ジャパニーズスタイルのフラワーアレンジメントと言えばどうでしょう。華やかで近づきやすいイメージになりましたか。

小原流で最初に習う「花意匠」は、シンプルでわかりやすく、現代の生活空間にも合うカジュアルなもので、まさにジャパニーズスタイルフラワーアレンジメントと呼べるでしょう。たった数本の花だけで素敵な生け花（アレンジ）ができてしまう、私はその衝撃を今でも忘れません。

生け花では一つ一つの花の「顔」を大事にします。各花の一番最高の向きを見極め、ルールに沿って生けていくのです。その過程はまるでお花を使った「瞑想」。気が付くと普段の生活の中で起きる様々な出来事を忘れ、意識は目の前のお花に集中しています。
