About Ohara-ryu Ikebana
The most important factor when you talk about Ohara-ryu Ikebana should be that it was Ohara-ryu that firstly stepped into the modern ikebana with the style created by the founder of Ohara-ryu called “Moribana”, which was widely adapted by other ikebana ryu-ha (schools).
In the middle of the Meiji Period (1868-1911), Ohara-ryu was founded by Unshin Ohara. He looked for the ways to incorporate the Western flowers that had just started to be imported into Japan around that time, and originated the styles that suitable not only for the Japanese traditional room but also the new Western style room of the period. Also, his ikebana style gave people enjoy ikebana freely expressing their creativity,which was different from the traditional ikebana style that had many strict and detailed rules.
Thus, his ikebana gave a big change to the traditional ikebana style, and it was the first brilliant step in modern ikebana.
小原流生け花とは
小原流を語るときに最も需要なのは、今や他の流派でも取り入れられている現代生け花形式である「盛花」が小原流の創始者によって作られ、現代生け花の最初の一歩を踏み出したことでしょう。
明治時代中期小原流は小原雲心によって創立されました。彼は明治時代に輸入され始めた西洋の花を生け花に取り入れ、もはや生け花を床の間だけでなく、西洋の新しい形式の部屋に合うものへと変化させました。また、彼の「盛花」はそれまで形式じみて堅苦しかった生け花とは違い、生け手が感性を十分に表現できより楽しめるものでした。
このように、彼の生け花はこれまでの生け花に変化を与え、現代生け花への最初の大きな一歩となりました。
